The Regional television centre (RTVC) – Blagoevgrad was founded in 1975 as a regional unit of the Bulgarian national television (BNT). The first broadcast from the centre was accomplished on 9 September 1975. Even in its first years the television centre became one of the most authoritative and respected media institutions in South- West Bulgaria. Through the broadcasting of the BNT are being prepared, realized and transmitted programmes with wide variety of themes and genres – news, information reportages, sports programmes, documentary-publicistic programmes, relevant to the national culture and regional folklore.
During the 30 years history of the channel, many of the television rubrics have been expected, received and seen with interest by viewers from all over Bulgaria. Such are the broadcasts of the popular rubrics ‛From the Spring“, which is altogether the first folklore contest in the national television, ‛Studio Bulgarian History“, ‛Pearls from Macedonia“, ‛From Song to Song“, ‛Folklore Meetings“…
The TV centre has produced hundreds of documentaries and programmes related to major national historic events as well as related to characters with significant contributions to the history of Bulgaria – films about the uprising on St. Elija's Day against the Ottoman domination in Macedonia and persons from the liberation movements in Macedonia and the Edirne region, the programmes ‛To Mother Bulgaria“, ‛St. Elija's Day 1903“, ‛A Burning Chain“, ‛A Trial without Bullets“, ‛The Balkan War“, ‛There aren’t Two Deaths“, ‛The Bulgarian Governments and Macedonia“, ‛The Great Bidding“, ‛The Crash of Illusions“ and many more.
Founding in its essence is the series of broadcasts and films about the Bulgarians in Albania, the Bulgarian spiritual, cultural and educational heritage of Macedonia.
In its films and programmes the centre has always paid attention to the viewers to the esthetic and spiritual concept – the series of feature films: ‛Along the Strouma and Mesta Valleys“ with a presenter proff. Asen Vasiliev, the programmes on the cultural and spiritual wealth:“ The Two Miladins“, ‛The Living Book“, ‛St. Nedelya’s Wonders“, ‛The Saint“, ‛The Models of the Master“, ‛Etude for Organ and Crickets“, ‛Sentence Immortality“, ‛People Relics“, ‛Autumn People“… The documentaries related to the sculptural symposium in the Ilindentsi village are also of great value.
For more than 10 years the RTVC – Blagoevgrad has been a respected partner in the creation and broadcasting of series of films for the popular programme of the BNT – ‛Atlas“ –‛The Unknown Bulgaria“.
TV programmes and films produced by RTVC – Blagoevgrad have shown own television productions and have also been distinguished at international television festivals in Greece, Romania, Poland and Bulgaria. Broadcasts of the centre have received special greetings from state institutions and departments for actively covering specific events and programmes.
Since 1992 the RTVC – Blagoevgrad started transmitting a two-hours own television programme which received a lot of interest by the viewers in the Blagoevgrad, Kyustendil and Pernik regions.
Since the autumn of 2001 the centre got a license for broadcasting a 6-hours regional programme. The preparation of a 12-hours and 14-hous programme is in process.
During its 30-years history, in the RTVC – Blagoevgrad have worked over 250 employees. The first permanently appointed employee in the centre in the cameraman Argir Marchev, who is now working as a cameraman-producer. The first producer at the centre is Vasil Vasilev. Later on as producers here work Veselin Vachev, Alexander Rakovski, Kosta Naumov, Kiril Ilinchev, Georgi Apostolov, Milen Getov, Konstantin Chakarov etc. For the creation of the best television productions, in the centre, tour popular and respected producers from the BNT and from the Bulgarian cinema.
The first managing director of the RTVC – Blagoevgrad is Dimitar Kehayov, followed by Nedyalka Tsoneva, Yulian Goshev, Valeri Yakov, and Yuliya Karajova. The first chief editor is Ekaterina Vasileva.
Many artists and specialists have worked dedicatedly in the centre, who are now practicing their television profession in other media in Bulgaria and abroad.
In 1988 came into operation the new television base – an administrative building and a studio and control-rooms complex. There are two studios functioning in the building of the RTVC – Blagoevgrad – studio 40 and studio 200 square meters. Musical studio for audio recording, all necessary technical control rooms for realization, arrangement and transmission of television programmes. For fieldwork are being used bicameral and four-cameral mobile television studio.
RTVC – Blagoevgrad is the only centre that has a music studio and invests in own music production.
During the first year after the foundation of RTVC – Blagoevgrad, it has broadcasted altogether 10 hours for the BNT, while in 2004, 67 hours were produced and broadcasted for the BNT and the satellite channel TV Bulgaria, and 1466 hours for the regional ‛Channel Pirin“.
Since 03.09.2007 the licensed programme of the regional television ‛Channel Pirin“ is eight hours transmitting between 16.00 and 24.00 h.
Together with the other television centers in Plovdiv, Varna and Rousse, RTVC – Blagoevgrad has established itself as an important producing unit in the system of the Bulgarian National Television.
